The Samsung Galaxy A8+ Complete review

Samsung Galaxy A8+ : Premium look

The worlds favored smartphone manufacturer recently released its latest smartphone The Samsung Galaxy A8+. It is one of the latest lineups in the Samsung‘s popular upper midrange “Galaxy A” smartphone series. As it is claimed to be a midrange mobile with premium features, I will try to discuss entirety about this smartphone which I noticed. Let’s check what the Samsung Galaxy A8+ means for the users.

Design and Build Quality

The build quality of this mobile is great at this price point. The glassy metallic housing makes smartphone looks premium and is much similar to Galaxy Note 8.  Though the phone looks little bulky, It is quite comfortable to use in one hand. The Galaxy A8+ comes with a physical LED notification light above the display. The USB type-c port and 3.5 mm headphone jack is located at the bottom. On the right, it has a single speaker and the power button whereas the volume button and the sim card slot are located at the left. The fingerprint sensor is located below the camera at the back. The phone also comes with IP68 water and Dust proofing which is truly a Plus to consider this mobile.

Display Quality

The Samsung Galaxy A8+ features a 6 inch SUPER AMOLED infinity display with thicker side bezels. It has the latest 18:9 Display aspect ratio. The display quality of this mobile is good and the visibility of the screen over the bright sunlight is also great. The phone also comes with the Always-On-Display thought it has a physical LED notification light. Even though everything about the display looks cool, It won’t support 4K video which is really an unacceptable one considering the price of this mobile.

Camera performance

The Galaxy A8+ holds a 16Mp rear facing camera with f/1.7 aperture. The images captured on this camera are all fine but at times the images get overexposed during bright sunlight. The Camera performance at artificial and low light conditions are poor. As it only has Electronic Image Stabilization, The images get blurred if not captured carefully. In contrary to the poor rear camera performance, the smartphone comes with a Dual front camera setup one with 16 MP and the other 8MP with f/1.7 aperture. The images shot on the front camera are clear and crispy. The color reproduction is that good enough and is well better in this price range. The smartphone also supports Portrait mode shots but only on the front camera. The Portrait mode images are looking fantastic.

Coming to the video recording, the videos recorded on this mobile are not even comparable with other smartphones at this price range. The videos get trembled due to the absence of OSI. The color reproduction is also not that stable while capturing videos outdoor. The worst part is that Galaxy A8+ doesn’t support 4K video recording.

Performance and usability

The smartphone comes with the midrange Exynos 7885 chipset with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal storage. The performance of this mobile is well good for daily use. The phone allows us to access multiple applications without any lag. The gaming performance of this mobile is good enough for heavy gamers, but still not that great like Oneplus 5T or Honor View 10. The phone supports dual 4G standby and the cellular call connectivity is also good.

Coming to the usability, the Galaxy A8+ runs on Android 7.1 (Nougat) under Samsung Experience UI (8.5). The Experience UI is almost familiar to many and is one of the best. The well optimized Finger-Friendly-Design helps the users to interact with the device more naturally. The UI is also packed with much applications which in turns helps us on many occasions.

Fingerprint Sensors

The Fingerprint sensor at the back is technically quite responsive. Though the sensor is positioned at a better place compared to Samsung’s previous model, It is still not the ideal place to access the sensor. The phone also comes with the face unlocking features which takes a second to unlock the phone. Personally, I feel fingerprint sensor is more secure and is much more convenient.

 Speaker

The audio produced by the single mono speaker at the right side of the phone is much louder and is crispy. The sound produced by the headset is also clean and clear.

Verdict

Thought the smartphone looks premium and have a better front camera, it lags a lot in its overall performance and the rear camera quality when compared with other smartphones at this price point. Simply we can say that its a well premium looking smartphone with midrange performance.
