Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Review - Specification Pros & Cons

Samsung’s next mid-range phone, Samsung Galaxy A53, was officially launched recently and it is open for pre-orders. The phone has a bunch of interesting features and it looks like the Galaxy A53 will compete with OnePlus Nord 2 and the Xiaomi 11i series. Here we will discuss what Samsung has for us in Galaxy A53.

What’s in the box?

Before we get into the specifications and features of the Galaxy A53 5G, we’ll see what comes with the phone.

The phone box contains…

  • The handset
  • A Data cable (C to C)
  • An Ejection pin
  • Quick start guide

Here is an unboxing video of the Samsung A53 5G for you.

Design and Display

There is no big upgrade with the design in Galaxy A53 5G as the handset looks very similar to the last year’s A52. The phone is definitely slimmer than other models and the edges are comfortable to grip. Samsung has come up with some appealing color options with this budget phone. The A52 will be available in Blue, Black, Peach, and White which are prefixed by the “Awesome” tag. On the rear, there is the quad-cam setup and the matte plastic finish that doesn’t make the phone smudgy and dirty. This phone has got full IP67 resistance so protection against sweat and dust will be supreme.

Upfront, we get a super AMOLED display that is 6.5 inches wide and its refresh rate is 120Hz. A resolution of 1080×2400 pixels offers quality pictures in bright places and watching HD content is great for the eyes. The peak brightness of this massive screen can hit up to 800 nits with no reflections disturbing during the day. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is used to protect the screen, hence accidental dropping will not be a problem. The in-display fingerprint sensor is there for screen unlocking and it works well without any delay. Everything about the screen is satisfying and as usual, Samsung has delivered a great screen again.

Chipset and Performance

The Galaxy A53 is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 1280 chipset built on the 5nm design. Heavy apps and multitasking go really well as the Octa-core processor handles all tasks smoothly. An upgrade in GPU performance was promised by Samsung and the experience is pretty parallel to it. The expandable RAM options go up to 16GB and a microSD slot for up to 1TB is a big bonus in A53. However, the official Samsung website shows the 6GB and 8GB RAM variants with internal storage options of 128GB and 256GB.

Android 12 combines with the One UI 4.1 to give a super fast and seamless performance. Also, Support for 5G in this phone can be handy in the near future for next level connection and sharing. Other connectivity features are same as other top Android phones so there is no big feature that will be missed in the A53. All hardware perform well according to usage so there is no need to worry about the set. For example, the speakers with Dolby Atmos give an enriching feel with top sound clarity.

Camera

Camera technology is a typical mid-range setup that has four lenses. The primary cam is a 64MP wide lens that can shoot with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and PDAF. For ultra-wide shots we can use the 12MP camera lens and the last two are the basic depth and macro lenses that are 5MP each. Portrait modes are advanced and there is the night mode that snaps quality low light pictures. Video shooting in 4K is possible at 30fps and the other camera options are really impressive. The 32MP front cam serves well for video calls and selfies and the punch is so small that it never disturbs.

Battery

Upgradation in battery is good compared to the older A52 and A52S. The A53 sports a 5000 mAh battery that easily lasts all-day or even a day and a half sometimes. Smart energy-efficient usage from the Exynos 1280 must be the main reason for this and this phone has got support for smart charging too. We can buy the 25W fast charger separately and this makes charging sessions really shorter. The absence of wireless charging is a bit disappointing but we must remember that this a budget phone which has to compromise on something.

Why should you buy it?

  • Bright and big 120Hz display.
  • Sleek and lightweight.
  • Solid Exynos 1280 processor.
  • Micro SD slot for expandable storage.

Reasons to avoid

  • Might feel slightly cheap in hand.

Verdict

Samsung Galaxy A53 is a good-looking mid-range phone that is worth the money. Following Samsung’s S22 models this phone can be a great deal for people who want premium specs at affordable rates. The overall upgrades in this model are really good and until now the phone has not failed us. Visit the official Samsung website for mare details and pre-booking.
