Apple iPhone updates – iOS 14.6 released for iPhone 6s & beyond
With great expectations, iOS 14.6 was rolled out by Apple to the public recently and the response has been good so far. This version of iOS being the successor of iOS 14.5 had to patch up a lot of things that were complained about. All iPhones that were compatible with iOS 13 are eligible for this update, which means it is available for iPhone 6S and any model above it. This version of iOS is available in different sizes according to the iPhone model we use. If you were not automatically notified about this update, open Settings and tap on General, and select Software Update to update your phone manually.
The update comes with the necessary bug fixes so the users need not worry about the problems which they faced with the earlier version. Performance issues and improvements over many departments have been addressed by this version of iOS. The new AirTag feature, Podcast subscriptions, Apple Card Family, and voice-controlled unlocking are some of the interesting things that come with this update. Let’s look at all the impressive features one by one.
Key Features added via this update
AirTag update
When AirTags were put into Lost Mode users were asked for phone numbers to get notified about their tag. This update allows us to give our email address instead of our number. When a tag is scanned by any NFC-capable device, the owner’s partially masked phone number is shown.
Apple Card Family
With iOS 14.6 an Apple Card can be shared with up to five people in your Family Sharing Group and children aged 13 years or above are eligible to use the card. This allows the users to track expenses and manage their money efficiently.
Unlock with Voice Control
Earlier, when an iPhone was restarted users were asked to enter the passcode manually and Face ID or fingerprints were not accepted. Now we can use the voice control to unlock our phones which is really cool. For example, if your passcode is “1234,” you can say “tap 1, tap 2, tap 3, tap 4” and your iPhone will be unlocked.
Spatial Audio for Apple Music
This upgrade is expected to be released around June and considered to be a big one. This feature brings Dolby Atmos support to Apple Music and lets us listen to 75 million songs in lossless quality. This is available at no extra cost for all Apple Music subscribers.
Podcast
The iOS 14.6 lets Apple’s premium Podcast subscription users to subscribe channels and individual shows that were not available before. Users can now access content early and ad free. Creators of Podcasts can offer a variety of features for a monthly fee.
Other fixes that iOS 14.6 brings to your iPhone.
- Bluetooth devices will no longer disconnect during calls or other activities.
- Unlock your iPhone using the Apple watch smoothly.
- Reminders will not appear as blank lines as it did while using the earlier version of iOS.
- No reduced performance during startup in iPhones anymore.
- Settings will have the call blocking extensions with this update.
The next huge update which is iOS 15 is expected to be released in the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) this year. While this update comprises small but very effective features and bug fixes, the iOS 15 will bring in a lot of impressive features that will change the user experience. So let’s wait till the 7th of June to know what Apple will offer to their customers.
