Read how well the OnePlus 9RT 5G is doing on hand. Find out if this model suits you.
OnePlus, the Chinese smartphone brand, released the last 9 series model OnePlus 9RT 5G in October 2021. There is no big changes as expected but there are updates in the design, chipset, and some camera adjustments. If you are a fan of the OnePlus 7T then you will be happy with the 9RT, because this model is more or less the same when it comes to the idea of update. People using the OnePlus 9R will not find anything significantly different on the OnePlus 9RT, but the upgrades bring this phone near OnePlus 9. Now the question is whether this 9 series model is worth it for the old OnePlus model users. Let’s find out below with details.
Design and Display
The design of the OnePlus 9RT 5G is a blend of OnePlus 9R and OnePlus 9. There is a change in the color of the back cover and the shining finish is attractive. Most of the buyers will choose the Hacker Black version as the sandstone-like finish and the glass back panel is very eye-catchy. The phone is smooth and good in hand but there will be some fingerprint marks if you run your hand over the panel. Camera looks different on this OnePlus 9 series model and we will discuss it in the camera section. The phone has a USB Type-C 2.0 port in the bottom for charging and other purposes. Overall, OnePlus 9RT is very similar to the OnePlus 9R except there is a small difference in weight.
OnePlus 9RT features a 6.61-inch fullHD+ AMOLED screen that has the familiar punch-hole on top. The bezels are thin and they give us a good viewing experience. With a refresh rate of 120Hz the experience is smooth and you can have up to 600 Hz touch response rate. The screen is bright and vivid and the streaming is also very smooth. There is the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 like usual to save the screen from any big damages. You will have under display Fingerprint for unlocking and this works well every time. Battery is made to work a little longer because of the qualities of the OnePlus 9RT’s screen. OnePlus still hangs on to the always-on display feature and there is the good support to lower quality videos for better entertainment.
Camera
The primary camera on the OnePlus 9RT has a good improvement when compared to the OnePlus 9R. A 50-megapixelSony IMX766 sensor is used in this model and this is what we saw with the 9 and 9 pro models. Capturing high dynamic range videos with a subject framed against bright light is easier with this sensor and you will definitely see the difference. Another impressive quality of the camera is that the Low-light photo quality has also improved. We can see that the OnePlus 9RT is bringing some of the 9 Pro camera qualities.
Other than the upgrade in the 50MP wide lens, other camera features on the 9RT is similar to the OnePlus 9R. There is the 16MP lens for the ultrawide shots and a 2-megapixel macro camera. The resolution of the macro camera is a little less compared to the 9R, but you might not find any big difference. Portraits are not up to the standards but you might get the perfect shots occasionally. A 16MP selfie camera is found in front and this is the standard front camera that OnePlus uses across models. Selfies and video calls are at a decent quality and it must be okay for general usage. We should note that the front camera has the capability to shoot only in 1080p.
Other camera features on the camera app include the AI scene enhancement toggle, dual-view video recording, and a Hi-Res mode. The app resembles Oppo’s ColorOS and the main camera can be used to its fullest with the options inside the app.
Battery
OnePlus 9RT sports a 4,500mAh battery that lasts for about 21 hours on a busy day with all the media and other battery-sucking stuff. The battery’s runtime is impressive when compared to the previous models but we have to see how it works after a few months. Although, this model is better than the previous 9 series models Oneplus 9R or even the 9.
Ordinary users who use the phone for calls, social media, and general gaming will surely make it through a day, so this is appreciable. There is fast charging available with the 65W charger that saves a lot of time by charging the phone very quickly. OnePlus claim that a dead phone will reach 100% in 30 minutes and it is more or less true.
Chipset, OS, and performance
OnePlus 9RT comes with Android’s OxygenOS version 11.3 and the phone feels very similar to the 9RT. The update for the next OS version of Android (Android 12) must come soon and we must wait for it. The well customized UI is clean and attractive with very minimal pre-installed applications. OnePlus 9RT is packed with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 system-on-chip that is paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. This Snapdragon chipset makes heavy games run smooth and multimedia editing is also made easy.
Support for 5G networks (standalone and non-standalone) is a plus for future use and there is the Wi-Fi 6 for fast connection. This phone is future-ready and has almost all qualities that will embrace new technology. Connectivity is seamless with all up to date Android features like Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, and NFC. Stereo speakers are loud and good and they come with the support of Dolby Atmos.

Verdict
If you are a general user who does not use smartphones very heavily, you can surely bank on the OnePlus 9RT. You will be getting an excellent battery with all the latest smartphone tech and features that will not let you down. OnePlus 9RT will most probably push the 9 and 9R behind because this model is the perfect blend of the both. Comparing the prices of all the OnePlus 9 series models now we can easily say that 9RT is the best choice. Though the 9RT is a bit expensive from our eyes there is a big chance for this model to become a good hit.
The OnePlus 9RT is a strong contender with all the needful features that come as a complete package. This phone is a very good deal, but for its price range you have to consider other flagship smartphones too.
