Xiaomi 12 Pro review

Xiaomi 12 pro is here with the best hardware and features to compete with the top-end Android phones. Lets see the Xiaomi 12 Pro specification and Review

Xiaomi 12 Pro review

Xiaomi has entered the 2022 smartphone race with its 12 series flagship phones. The Xiaomi 12 pro is an improved successor to the Xiaomi Mi 11 with valid upgrades. This post is going to take you through all that Xiaomi 12 pro has to provide for a user.

The 12 series by Xiaomi was launched on March 15 and the phones are looking very impressive. It is great to see Xiaomi promising 3 Android OS updates and 4 years of security patches for 12 and 12 pro. Xiaomi 12 pro is so good that it can be easily considered a competition to Samsung’s latest flagships, Galaxy S22 Plus and Ultra. The sleek design, superb display, and fast charger make 12 pro a strong Android smartphone for buying. First, let’s see what comes with the phone.

What’s in the box?

The following items will be found inside the cardboard box when you buy the Xiaomi 12 pro.

  • Clear Silicone case
  • 12oW fast charger
  • USB-A to USB-C cable
  • Manuals.
  • The Xiaomi 12 pro handset.

The free case that comes with the phone is not recommendable as its cheap quality can compromise protection. Charger that comes with the phone is a great addition by Xiaomi. Because these days most flagship devices come without a charger.

Design and Hardware.

The sleek and simple design of Xiaomi 12 pro is good for the hands and the eyes. Available in Blue, Gray, and Purple, Xiaomi 12 pro is very premium in looks. This phone is made of metal and it has a curved glass upfront with the Gorilla Glass Victus protection. However, a weaker Gorilla Glass 5 is used on the rear and this can bring some scratches soon. Xiaomi does great at experimenting with smartphone designs and there are some welcoming differences brought by them with the 12 pro. The back of the phone has a matte texture and it feels very comfortable to hold. The material is very resistant to fingerprints so no need to worry about the sticky prints.

Camera setup is where the major design change has happened. A rounded rectangular bump is the house to all three cameras and it looks clean and modern. The primary lens looks huge when compared to the other two camera lenses in the setup. We will come back to this is the Camera section.

For audio, the quad speakers are just decent as they can sound better than they do. High volume sounds are loud enough but the best volume level would be somewhere in the middle.

Xiaomi 12 pro weighs 204 grams and it never feels heavy when used. All feels good about the make and design of the Xiaomi 12 pro. But the rectangular bump for the camera makes the phone wobble when kept down. Also, there is no IP ratings for this flagship device from Xiaomi

Display

Xiaomi always scores well when it comes to smartphone displays. The 12 pro features a large 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED (by Samsung) panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. A peak brightness of 1500 nits and the high WQHD+ resolution make this display very colorful and vibrant. There is support for Dolby Vision and HDR 10+, so viewing content on the Internet must be pleasing to the eyes. The screen helps in saving battery and it is very smooth for scrolling and other stuff.

Xiaomi 12 Pro screen

Xiaomi 12 pro’s display is definitely one of the best smartphone displays available in the market now. The size is marginally smaller when compared to last year’s Mi11, but the other features of the display compensate with better quality.

Processor, performance, and Specs.

Powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, Xiaomi 12 pro is a very fast and capable smartphone. The chipset is an octa-core silicon built on a 4nm manufacturing process. It makes the phone more energy efficient and does great with everything. All apps work well and the performance of the chipset is felt while using heavy apps. Gaming can be very immersive with this phone because the processor can handle intense graphics and more. The phone is generally cool while using it for day-to-day work, but heavy gaming for long spans can make it warm.

The 12 pro runs on Android 12 combined with the interesting MIUI13 over the top. There have been problems with the MIUI in the past, but this latest version proves to be good in all ways. Said that, there are few people who still want Xiaomi to match the UI quality of Samsung and other top smartphones.

Xiaomi 12 pro comes either with 8GB or 12GB RAM and this feels enough for the 12 series phones. Storage options are also impressive with the Xiaomi 12 pro. There are the 128GB and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage models available now, and we must wait and see if Xiaomi releases the 512GB storage model in future.

Connectivity can be seamless on the Xiomi 12 pro. There is the Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and all global 5G bands to make the phone more friendly in all atmospheres. All specifications are up to date and nothing is disappointing about the 12 pro feature-wise.

Camera

Xiaomi phones focus more on manufacturing the best smartphone cameras, and they have done the same with the 12 pro. The triple camera setup on the rear contains the main 50MP Sony IMX 707 sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and 50MP 2x telephoto Samsung JN1 sensor. The main camera has the largest sensor when compared with the other 2022 flagship smartphones. Images and videos are coming out accordingly with great details and accuracy. Pictures have vivid colors and crisp details both during day and night. The new focus tracking technology used for video shooting is excellent and this can be used to record fast-moving objects. You can record videos at a maximum of 8K@24fps, but this is restricted to the main camera which can shoot at 4K@60fps.

Xiaomi 12 Pro review camera

The 32MP selfie camera on the front is quite adequate and it is capable of producing stunning photos in good lighting. For videos using the front cam, you can shoot at 1080p@60fps max. This punch hole cam is small and never feels like a disturbance on the screen.

Battery

Battery life of Xiaomi 12 pro is decent, but this phone is a decent pick for those who use phones more gently. There is a 4,600mAh physical battery that powers the phone one full day with a single charge. Meanwhile, charging speed is where Xiaomi impresses everyone with the 12 pro. It gives us the super fast 120W charger that charges the phone fully under 20 Minutes. This is the fastest you could get in the market. There is support for wireless charging with the fast 50W charger and Xiaomi also provides the 10W reverse wireless charging option. Though there are several power-saving features on this phone, it can never last over a day.

Verdict

Xiaomi 12 pro is a very capable flagship smartphone that can compete with any of the latest top-end phones. It’s got everything you would expect from an Android phone. Go for it if you are looking for the fastest charging phone that has excellent design and a big bright screen. However, think twice if you want your phone to have a longer battery life and a more friendly user interface, as the MIUI still needs improvements.
