Verizon Moto G4 Play finally gets Android 7.1.1 Nougat update, after being stuck on 6.0.1 for a long time
Moto G4 Play users started getting Android 7.1.1 Nougat update from yesterday through Verizon in the US. The update was spotted on the device and Motorola has also updated its official software updates page to announce the rollout. Motorola’s excellent track record with updating devices falling down when it became part of Lenovo. The Moto G4 Play released in September 2016, has been stuck a lot when it comes to software update. The unlocked variant of this smartphone received this update last month and now Verizon rolling out the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for this device over-the-air.
The firmware update bumps up the device from build number MPIS24.241-2.35-1-17 to NPI26.48-38 and brings all of the typical Nougat features like multi-window, bundled notifications and quick reply, granular notification settings, a customizable Quick Settings tray, and more. The update also includes the December 2017 security patches with the Krack exploit fix.
The firmware update weights around 1 GB so hopefully you’ve still got enough space for it on your handset with a good data balance to download the update. Look out for it arriving to your device over-the-air soon, if they haven’t.
We think, at least as of now Moto should concentrate on giving updates to its devices instead of releasing more device variants that anyone can’t keep track of each year.
