A List of Games Making Online Slots Worthwhile

Online slot machines used to be fairly dull. In most cases, they represented clunky, digital versions of in-person casino slots. In a few others, they involved original animations and ideas, but were executed somewhat lazily (or perhaps just without much investment).

Over the course of the last decade however, this category was upgraded significantly. A great deal more effort went into the conceptualizing, development, and execution of slot games. And the result is a fresh gaming category that is overflowing with fun options — from original games, to adaptations, to titles inspired by pop culture.

To list all of the good games that have emerged would take many pages. Here though, we hope to provide a helpful sampling of some of the games that have made the online slot category so much more worthwhile.

Age Of The Gods

Age Of The Gods is a full series of slot games that exist very much as a response to gaming trends — and specifically to the impact of recent installments in the popular Assassin’s Creed franchise. A few years ago, Assassin’s Creed: Odysseybuilt a simulation of the Ancient Greek world that was widely praised for its beauty, and referred to as “a place of intense visual pleasure.” Soon thereafter, the franchise put out Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, which was widely viewed as a superior game, and which delved into Norse mythology. These games made gorgeous renderings of ancient and mythical settings trendy, and the Age Of The Gods series have tapped into that trend in the slot category. These are gorgeously animated games that show just how much settings and characters can enhance the basic gameplay of a slot machine.

Cashtro’s Voyage

Cashtro’s Voyage is a game that is currently exclusive to the slot gaming section on Coral, but which is almost certainly bound for more widespread placement across casino sites. It’s significant to the category for a different reason, which is that in a way it demonstrates slots’ ability to build on and improve upon themselves. Arguably the game that kicked off the elevation of slots to greater heights was Gonzo’s Quest — a game depicting a cartoon explorer on his voyage into the New World. Well, Cashtro’s Voyage is basically a different, fresher take on the same concept. It’s an excellent game with a palpable sense of an adventure, and an indication that online slots are only getting better.

Street Fighter II

Street Fighter II is a straight-up adaptation of the renowned arcade fighting game. It’s really as simple as that! NetEnt (one of the most reliable developers in slots) simply turned the original game into a slot concept, with all of fans’ beloved characters factored in. It’s still a slot machine, fundamentally, but various elements of classic, one-on-one Street Fighter combat are worked in. This game is the best of a number of examples of how the expanding slot category is beginning to produce excellent adaptations as well.

Warlords: Crystals Of Power

Warlords: Crystals Of Power is an original slot game, and another example of how atmospheric and visually striking these games can be today. It’s also another instance of slot developers capitalizing on popular trends and genres, and bringing them into the category. This is essentially the slot version of a swashbuckling fantasy game, loosely resembling everything from the Gods Of Rome mobile game, to the For Honor console game, to the Iron Blade: Medieval Legends RPG. Warlords: Crystals Of Power takes similar visuals and concepts and rolls them into an incredibly engaging slot game.

Rich Wilde And The Book Of Dead

Rich Wilde And The Book Of The Dead is one of a series of games that further demonstrate the slot category’s ability to draw from other realms of gaming. Right now the argument can be made that solo adventurers make for the most popular games. Series like Uncharted and Fallout see characters setting out to conquer dangerous lands. Far Cry 6 just emerged as one of the hit games of 2021, and revolves around a single mercenary venturing into a civil conflict. And Tomb Raider — which according to a write-up on GameRant may be producing a new title in the near future — is perhaps the best example of the bunch. The Rich Wilde series follows in the spirit of all of these games, building slot concepts around a daring adventurer’s voyages into various exciting settings.

Again, it would take far too much space to list all of the great games in this category. These five, however, and the trends they represent, speak to why slots have become so much more worthwhile in recent years.
